Big-Box Kit vs. Cougar King
Most coatings fail because the prep was bad. Here’s the difference.
Built for Contractors Who Need It Done Right the First Time.
Cougar King Epoxy is a service-disabled veteran-owned business, ready to work with federal, state, and commercial contractors. Warehouses, facilities, offices, and retail floors: diamond-ground, coated or polished, and finished on schedule.
Why Cougar King
Owner Nathan is a 100% service-disabled veteran. He runs every job with the discipline and accountability he learned in uniform. You get a straight answer, and he shows up when he says he will.
We diamond-grind the concrete, repair cracks and spalls, and only then put down a coat.
Genuine Torginol® flake and commercial-grade resins. No big-box kits.
100° summers, freeze-thaw winters, and red dirt on every tire. We pick systems that handle all of it.
Straight Answers
How long does it take to cure?
It depends on the system and the temperature. With polyaspartic topcoats, light foot traffic is typically fine within hours and light vehicle traffic after about 24–48 hours, longer in cool weather. Full cure takes about 5–7 days, so let hot tires cool before parking until then. Traditional epoxy usually needs about 5–7 days before vehicles. We’ll give you the exact timeline for your floor.
What is hot-tire pickup, and will my floor get it?
Hot tires soften weak coatings, and when the tire cools it can pull the coating right off the slab. It’s mostly a problem with thin DIY coatings on poorly prepped concrete. Proper grinding and a quality topcoat are how you prevent it.
Why do you grind the concrete?
Coatings need a rough, open surface to bond to. Diamond grinding removes the weak top layer, old sealers, and contaminants and leaves a profile the coating can grip. Skipping this step is the number one reason coatings peel.
Is it slippery?
A smooth, high-gloss floor can be slick when it’s wet. Flake floors have natural texture, and we can add an anti-slip aggregate to the topcoat on any system for more grip.
What affects the cost?
Square footage, the condition of the slab (cracks, old coatings, moisture), which system you choose, how many coats it needs, and access. Call or text and we’ll give you a real number.
How do I maintain it?
Sweep or dust-mop regularly and clean with a pH-neutral cleaner and water. Avoid harsh acids and citrus cleaners on coatings. Wipe up oil and chemicals promptly. Polished concrete just needs a dust mop and an occasional neutral cleaner.
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes. 5-year workmanship warranty. If your coating fails within 5 years of installation because of our prep or our install, we fix it.
- What’s covered: Defects caused by improper substrate prep or installation workmanship.
- What’s not covered: Accidents and acts of God; structural design flaws, structural defects, building alterations, or cracks in the base slab; moisture pushing up through the slab (hydrostatic pressure); oil or other contaminants rising from below the surface; damage that spreads from chips that were never repaired; deficient concrete that separates; and facility problems such as roof, wall, or plumbing leaks.
- Your part: Tell us as soon as you spot a problem, clear the area of obstructions and equipment at your own cost so we can work, and have the job paid in full. Our repair obligation applies only after full payment.
- Keep it valid: Only Cougar King Epoxy (or someone we expressly authorize) can do covered repairs. If anyone else does them, the warranty is void.
We’ll start covered repairs within a reasonable time.
What flake color hides red Oklahoma dirt best?
Brown hides brown. Torginol Outback (FB-517) is a mix of tan, browns, and a salmon tone that runs close to red-dirt color. Torginol Bean (FB-960) is a lighter, creamier blend of fawn, clay, and browns that also hides red dust well. If you want gray, a busy mid-tone blend like Gravel (FB-414) or Domino (FB-411) hides both dust and tire marks.
